All active and in-progress Onyx Labs initiatives. Each project is published openly to gather feedback from the industry. Work-in-progress documents are shared as they develop — not just when complete.
A proprietary four-projector optical layering system for extreme high-dynamic-range cinema projection. Spectra HDR distributes luminance, chroma, and contrast responsibilities across four synchronized modules — achieving contrast, brightness, and color volume unattainable with conventional single-projector HDR.
An accessibility hardware initiative for theatrical audiences. Halo comprises two devices: Lumin, AR glasses that overlay closed captions directly in the viewer's field of view; and Oxbit, a hearing assistance headset with customizable frequency filtering and volume control.
A secure, scalable over-the-air DCP distribution system. Studios upload content which is chunked and double-encrypted — first with a master key issued by Onyx, then with a studio-specific key. Secure receiver hardware at the theatre decrypts and reassembles content for TMS ingest.
